Mission:
Broom Wagon Cycling Club is a 501c3 non-profit that encourages people abstaining from alcohol and substance abuse to develop healthy lifestyles through cycling. By providing knowledge, encouragement, organized activities, and access to equipment, Broom Wagon helps people set goals, build confidence, and find joy in an active lifestyle—ultimately giving them tools for living without drugs and alcohol.
Vision:
Broom Wagon strives to build a resilient, healthy, and contented community of people abstaining from alcohol and substance abuse. Through the discipline and demands of regular cycling, Broom Wagon seeks to foster new relationships, lessen the stigma of sobriety, and challenge people to push themselves physically, emotionally, and intellectually.
Broom Wagon is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to building a positive cycling community and getting people in recovery on bikes.
Broom Wagon is an inclusive community of bike riders united by the value we place on the mental and physical benefits of cycling as a lifestyle. We come from all walks of life to enjoy this healthy hobby and grow together as cyclists and as people.
Some of us abstain entirely from all mind altering substances. Others of us merely enjoy sober activities or want to support our sober friends. All of us have seen what addiction and substance abuse can do to our family members, friends, and colleagues. And all of us value community events that are free from drugs and alcohol.
Broom Wagon hosts rides, excursions, events, fundraisers, and community betterment projects to build a cycling community with positive impacts on both its members and on the greater society.
Community:
Countless studies praise the physical and mental benefits of routine cycling for people at all stages of life. Broom Wagon additionally recognizes the vital role cycling can play for many as an alternative to drugs and alcohol, whether just getting sober, or maintaining a sober lifestyle.
Unfortunately however, cycling is really expensive. Coming up with the thousands of dollars needed to purchase a bike, helmet, shoes, and kit, or to register and train for an organized ride, can be a serious barrier to starting cycling for many. This can be particularly true for people newly recovering from drug or alcohol abuse.
To overcome the financial hurdles to cycling, Broom Wagon works to raise money and partner with corporate sponsors to get cycling gear and ride registrations to people recovering from substance and alcohol abuse. Broom Wagon is also developing scholarships and lending programs to pair people committed to their recovery with the equipment they need to start and maintain a cycling lifestyle.
